In Home Sessions | Brantford Newborn Photographer

Are you expecting a new family member and looking for newborn photographer? Overwhelmed by the idea of having your baby squished up in a blanket burrito or in an uncomfortable looking pose? Not sure if a posed, studio style newborn shoot is for you?

Look no further!

Over the past few months, we have been experiencing some pretty nasty weather here in Southwestern Ontario! The good thing about that? I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a few newborn sessions in clients’ homes, and I’m SO excited with how they have turned out. I’d like to tell you a little more about these lovely little family sessions!

So, what exactly are you signing up for with an in-home session?

First of all, this is going to be pretty relaxed, so don’t stress about it. Wear something you are comfortable in, same goes for baby and the other kids! Tidy up your living spaces (kitchen, common areas, bedroom, nursery) and open up the curtains or blinds. I’ll arrive at your home, and take a quick peek around to see what light is available. We may end up rearranging some furniture so we can make the most of the light available. Don’t worry if there is some clutter, we can move things around if necessary.

We will likely spend around two hours taking photos in and around your home. Don’t worry too much if baby (or his/her siblings) need a break. There will be time for feeding, diaper changes, or a quick time out from the camera if necessary. I do not put a time limit on sessions for newborns, as I understand that babies can be fussy, and the last thing I want is for you to feel rushed!

What type of photos can we expect from and in-home session?

The types of photos I am aiming for aren’t perfect, but I hope to depict your real life; the connection and bond that your family shares. As with other aspects of my photography, I will give you slight direction when necessary. I will likely put the whole family on the bed, or I might ask you to sing a song to the baby or tell a joke to the older kids. I will also try to grab one or two shots with everyone looking at the camera, but the focus is on the candid moments between you & your family.

The incredible moments that are captured with this kind of shoot are truly a snapshot of your family in time. I believe that these sessions are so important. We all know how quickly time can pass (especially with little ones around), and before long your kids will be grown and you will wish you had more photos of them when they were just little nuggets!

Monica | Brantford Maternity Photography

Monica is one of those people who just makes you feel like you have known her forever right from the moment you meet. I was introduced to her about a year ago, and now I am lucky enough to call her a dear friend. As you can imagine, when Monica & her husband Nathan announced that they were expecting her third child (lovingly named “Très” for now) I was so excited to have the chance to photography her maternity session.

This is one busy family, with a 4 year old, 2 year old, and a new puppy! Rather than a chaotic and fun shoot with the whole family, Monica opted for a session with just her. Nathan took their 2 kids and their new puppy out for a few hours. Mom and I had some quiet time to document her third baby belly.

It was a cold, stormy day, and the wind was whipping around us! Monica loves storms, so it was a perfect touch to add a dark and stormy sky to her photos. It felt so “gone with the wind”! To make things even better, all of these photos were taken right in Monica & Nathan’s (amazing) backyard. I’m SO insanely jealous of their property! What an incredible spot for their growing family.

Autumn is one of the BEST times to schedule a photo shoot – not only are the colours incredible, but it is fun to be able to play with layers and different clothes without having to be too warm or cold! This moody fall day definitely did not disappoint.

Thanks to Monica for having me document her third baby! I can hardly wait to meet the little one (hard to believe it is 1.5 months away still)! While we wait for sweet little Très to arrive, here are a few of my favourite photos from Monica’s maternity shoot.

See what I mean? Totally “Gone with the wind”!

Second Shooting | Hamilton Wedding Photography

I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to second shoot for a few amazing photographers over the years! I feel so lucky to live in an area that values working together, and really embodies the “community over competition” I am always striving for. For this particular wedding, I helped second shoot for Peter B Photography back in July of this year.

The Wedding

This wedding day was SUPER fun, right from the get-go. As soon as I arrived at the hotel room in the morning, I knew this one was going to be a hoot. I had the pleasure of getting ready with Judy’s “entourage”, her girls dressed in suits and ties. We had a blast at the hotel taking photos, and as soon as the girls were ready, we took to the streets. Judy and her girls were so much fun, and even busted out their converse sneakers for a few photos.

After the “getting ready” portion of the day was over, we headed over to the incredible Liuna Gardens in Hamilton. The location for the ceremony was directly overlooking Lake Ontario, and was surrounded by beautiful flower gardens. I can’t imagine a better place for a ceremony in the heat of summer! My mind was pretty much blown!

The ceremony was gorgeous and emotional, and the brides’ friends and family gathered to witness the couple’s commitment to each other. After the ceremony, we were lucky enough to be present for a gorgeous sunset over Lake Ontario, and snuck out of the reception to grab some incredible sunset photos.

The end of the night brought an incredible PARTY!! Not all weddings have a reception as live as this one! These girls really know how to party.

Here are a few of my favourite snaps from the day! And don’t forget: Who run the world! #GIRLS!

Brittany & Kevin | Paris Engagement Photography

Where to begin with this engagement session? Brittany and Kevin are a lovely couple who hired me as their wedding photographer back in the winter. Since they are getting married in January, we decided we wanted to have some warm summery photos for their engagement session.

As the time to meet up for Brittany & Kevin’s engagement session came closer, the weather was calling for torrential downpour and a pretty serious storm. After watching the radar for a couple hours, we were really on the fence about whether or not we should push on. Ultimately, I left the decision up to Brittany and Kevin. These two are definitely troopers, and they decided to go ahead and do it anyways! Did I mention that I just LOVE when couples aren’t afraid to let the weather dictate their session? No? Ok, well, I love it. Haha.

The Engagement Shoot

It was a humid July afternoon, and other than a tiny misting, there was NO rain for us! It turned out so great. We explored the trails at Apps Mill, getting devoured by mosquitoes! There was some incredible greenery and the old mill building is a really cute spot for photos.

Afterwards, we headed down to Kevin’s family farm, where we were greeted with an AMAZING sunset. Take that, weather network!

We ended the night downtown Paris, wandering the streets of the “prettiest little town in Canada”. We took a couple of photos in front of the Arlington Hotel, and even saw a rainbow while we wandered around.

I’m pretty obsessed with these photos, so my apologies ahead of time for posting too many… These two are just so wonderful and SO clearly obsessed with each other. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a summer evening.

Britt and Kevin, I absolutely cannot wait for the wedding!

Danielle & Matt | Guelph Backyard Wedding

Danielle & Matt | Guelph Backyard Wedding

Danielle and Matt are a super sweet couple who met in Guelph – a city I have a huge soft spot for! When they contacted me about photographing their wedding, I was super stoked. When they told me it was going to be in Danielle’s parents’ backyard, I was over the moon! Backyard weddings are some of my favourites. They are always so personal and intimate. Danielle and Matt’s backyard wedding was just that.

The weather was perfect, and their guests gathered in the beautiful backyard to witness Danielle & Matt’s commitment to each other. After the ceremony, we headed downtown to explore for photos, and topped the night off at Diana Downtown for the reception.

Danielle and Matt, it was SO great hanging out and getting to know you on your wedding day! Wishing you a life of love and happiness together 🙂
